A scrum occurs after a penalty to restart the game. Both teams' front 8 players bind together and face one another.  Once the ball is placed inside the scrum the teams push against one another. Each team's hooker attempts to win possession of the ball by "hooking" it to their team. The winning team picks up the ball and continues into open play.

A lineout occurs when the ball leaves the field of play. The forwards line up facing the touch line and prepare to receive the ball. The hooker throws the ball straight down the channel. Both teams will lift their jumpers in the air and attempt to catch the ball and return it to their team to continue play.

When a player gets tackled or goes to the ground a ruck can form. The player on the ground must release the ball so that it is playable. The other team will try and grab the ball to gain possession. To avoid a turn over the attacking team gets over the player and ball on the ground. This ruck secures the ball until it can be passed on and play continues.
